Turning a Netflix Documentary Premiere Into a Brand-Building Moment

Client: Vince Young + The Young Family
Project: UNTOLD: The Testimony of Vince Young — Netflix Documentary Release
Services: Social Media Strategy • Content Strategy • Real-Time Social • Video Editing • Copywriting • Campaign Planning • Personal Brand Development

THE OPPORTUNITY

The release of Netflix's UNTOLD: The Testimony of Vince Young created an opportunity to do more than promote a documentary. It was a chance to reintroduce Vince Young's story to a new generation, give audiences a more personal look at the Young family, and build social momentum that could continue long after premiere week.
I supported Vince Young and his family across the pre-release, premiere and post-release phases, developing content and strategy that connected the documentary's national media attention with Vince and Candice Young's personal social channels.

My goal was to help the family own the moment on their platforms — not simply react to it.

BEFORE THE RELEASE

Building the Story Before Premiere Day

Ahead of the documentary's release, I helped establish a stronger and more consistent social presence for the family while preparing content that could capitalize on upcoming press and cultural moments.

One of the campaign's key announcements came through The Hollywood Reporter. I drafted and published Vince Young's official social post announcing the documentary following the exclusive press release, helping bring the national announcement directly to his audience through his own voice and platform.

My support also extended beyond documentary promotion into personal brand development for Candice Young. I edited and developed Reels around moments including her time surrounding the ESPYs and the family's trip to Cabo, creating lifestyle content that allowed audiences to begin connecting with Candice outside of Vince's football legacy.

This helped establish a larger content ecosystem ahead of the documentary — one centered on sports, family, lifestyle, legacy and culture.

DURING THE PREMIERE

Turning a Live Event Into Real-Time Social Content

For the Houston premiere, I supported the family's social presence in real time.

I live-posted Instagram Stories throughout the premiere, capturing the energy of the event as it unfolded — from arrivals and the screening to audience reactions and celebration.

At the same time, I approached the premiere as a content production opportunity rather than a single-night event, identifying moments that could become standalone pieces of social content across the following days.
Following the premiere, I turned around key assets in less than 24 hours, including:

  • Premiere photo-dump content
  • A social-first audience reactions Reel
  • Event and behind-the-scenes content
  • Copy and captions for Vince's channels
  • Additional content designed for continued rollout after the event
  • Managing a 4-people media team

The fast turnaround allowed Vince's social channels to participate in the conversation while excitement surrounding the premiere and documentary was still at its highest.

EXTENDING THE STORY THROUGH MUSIC

Supporting an Original Houston Soundtrack Moment

The documentary also created an opportunity to connect Vince's story back to Houston through music.

I prepared social content and rollout materials supporting an original song created specifically around the documentary, featuring Houston artists Bun B, Propain, Lil' Keke, Slim Thug, Z-Ro, MAJOR. and Jordan Young, with writing from Bryan-Michael Cox.

The music rollout expanded the campaign beyond sports and documentary promotion into Houston culture, music and legacy, creating another entry point for audiences to engage with Vince's story.

AFTER THE DOCUMENTARY

Building Beyond a Premiere

The strategy wasn't designed to end when the credits rolled.

Following the release, I developed a longer-term social and brand growth plan for the Young family, identifying ways to turn the increased attention surrounding the documentary into sustained audience growth.

The plan expanded their content beyond promotional posts and established opportunities across:

Legacy • Family • Football • Lifestyle • Houston Culture • Entrepreneurship • Behind-the-Scenes Storytelling

Rather than allowing the Netflix release to become a temporary spike in visibility, the strategy created a roadmap for transforming that attention into an owned audience and more sustainable family brand.

THE RESULTS

The documentary created a major cultural moment for the Young family, but the social strategy helped translate that attention into measurable reach, engagement and audience growth across Vince and Candice Young's platforms.

+66% FOLLOWER GROWTH
Candice Young's Instagram grew from approximately 878 to 1,460 followers in roughly one month — an increase of more than 66% — alongside increased engagement and a more consistent social presence.

10.1K VIEWS — 2X PREVIOUS REEL PERFORMANCE
A Netflix documentary trend Reel I edited and published for Candice generated 10.1K views, nearly 2X the views of the Reel published prior to my work with the family, which received approximately 5.1K views.

14.8K PREMIERE REEL VIEWS
The audience reactions Reel I edited and turned around following the premiere generated 14.8K views on Vince Young's Instagram, extending the premiere experience to his digital audience.

4K+ LIKES ON PREMIERE PHOTO DUMP
The first photo dump published following the premiere generated 4,000+ likes, 200 comments, 79 reposts and nearly 300 shares, demonstrating strong audience interest beyond passive viewing and helping organically extend the reach of the premiere.

<24-HOUR CONTENT TURNAROUND
Key premiere assets — including the photo dump and audience reactions Reel — were edited, packaged and published in less than 24 hours, allowing Vince's channels to capitalize on conversation surrounding the premiere while interest was at its highest.

20+ CONTENT ASSETS DEVELOPED
I drafted and developed 20+ pieces of content for the family across the documentary campaign and their post-release brand strategy, creating a pipeline of content that extended beyond premiere week.

2X EXISTING FEED OUTPUT
I helped roll out 6 social posts compared with approximately 3 existing posts on the page prior to the campaign, quickly establishing a more active and intentional digital presence.

THE TAKEAWAY

A Netflix premiere can create attention. The strategy was to turn that attention into equity.

By combining real-time social media management, rapid content production, storytelling and long-term brand planning, I helped the Young family use UNTOLD: The Testimony of Vince Young as more than a documentary release.

It became an opportunity to reintroduce Vince, introduce audiences to the family behind the story, and begin building what comes next.
